Chalet Grand Pares
- chalet ski holidays in Val d'Isere France -
12 beds |
The Chalet
Chalet Grand Pares has six bedrooms and sleeps twelve on two
floors situated opposite the cable car station at Le Fornet, Val d'Isere.
There are two en-suite bedrooms with bathrooms, two en-suite bedrooms
with showers. The remaining two bedrooms each have a separate bathroom
abd a separate w.c. There is a dining room with open plan kitchen and a
separate lounge.
"Grand Pares" is local patois meaning "steep slope" which refers to the
mountain to the rear of the chalet. Entrance to the chalet in the winter
is on the ground floor via the garage / boot room, complete with boot
warmer (there is usually too much snow in winter to be able to use the
front door!). From the dining room, which has a large south-facing
balcony, there is a spectacular view of the Le Fornet cable car and Le
Foret piste (very black!).
This ski chalet is wonderfully positioned both for easy access to skiing
/ snowboarding and to the Train Rouge, the efficient bus service one uses
to get around Val d'Isere when not skiing.
In the morning, to get access to the skiing & boarding of Val d'Isere, a
stroll of about 75 metres from the chalet's ski boot room takes you to
the Fornet cable car, which will whisk you up the mountain. If you are
one of these people who like to be on the first ski lift of the day you
will be perfectly placed. For those wishing to go to the nursery slopes
in the village the bus stop is right outside the chalet with the first
bus starting at 8.30am. Le Fornet also contains one of Val d'Isere's most
well-liked restaurants, L'Arolay. It is very popular both at lunchtimes
and evenings (particularly Wednesday evenings).
The chalet staff live in and have their own separate accommodation on the
entrance level.
Skiing from the Chalet
In the morning a 75m walk up the road takes you to the cable car. Keen
skiers
and boarders can be on the first lift with ease, and ready to
ski or board, hopefully, the first powder tracks of the day. From the Le Fornet area it is possible to ski to the Solaise mountain and onwards to
La Daille and Tignes.
At the end of the day, if you finish at Le Fornet, after walking up to
the cable car you are left with a walk of only 75m to the chalet. If you
finish at Solaise or La Daille, the free shuttle bus will drop you 50m
from the door.
The Food
Breakfast is provided every morning and consists of tea, coffee, fruit
juice, porridge, muesli, cereal, yoghurts, various combinations of: eggs,
bacon, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, etc., plus bread, jam and
honey.
Afternoon tea is prepared and left out for you to help yourself after
your skiing or snowboarding, and consists of tea, coffee, hot chocolate,
bread, jams, etc., plus homemade cake or biscuits or scones.
Dinner, normally served around eight o'clock, is a superb three course
meal plus cheese accompanied by good quality red and white wine with
coffee and tea to finish.
Le Fornet
Le Fornet is a small, pretty hamlet 2km from the centre of Val d'Isere.
Access to the skiing is via a cable car and the hamlet is also served by
the well known Train Rouge. This is the bus service that enables you to
travel free between Solaise, La Daille and Le Fornet - the three ski
areas of Val d'Isere. Buses run from 0830 hours until 0135 hours. Chalet
Grand Pares is ideally situated 50m from the bus stop and only 75m from
the cable car station.
